April Employee of the Month – Sheila Ettinger

Sheila Ettinger, House Manager at Walsh Manor, was recently named Employee of the Month for April by Sister Maryalice Jacquinot.  “What initially attracted me to Saint Joseph’s Center,” stated Sheila, “was my experience working as a surgical OR scheduler, where I related with the Saint Joseph’s team.   Over time, that exposure sparked a genuine passion in me to be part of an organization so committed to serving others, and I started in 2011.”   The residents appreciate the skills that Sheila teaches them in cooking, homemaking, and daily living.  Many residents show enthusiasm during activities—they ask questions, participate actively, and often express pride in what they’ve accomplished, whether it’s preparing a meal or completing a household task.   “When Sister Maryalice informed me that I was the employee of the month, I felt incredibly humbled and deeply appreciative. “ Sheila stated, “There’s something incredibly meaningful about being part of the journey and watching someone go from feeling uncertain or overwhelmed to becoming more confident in becoming a mother.  Helping these residents build a foundation for themselves and supporting them during such an important life transition is what makes this work so fulfilling.”  Sheila lives in Archbald where she shares her home with her 87-year-old mother, whom she cares for, as well as her young cousin, Abigail, along with her partner, Mark. Sheila stated, “Family is a central part of my life, and being able to support and nurture them brings me a lot of fulfillment.” She also has three children—Ashley, Amanda, and Matthew—and three wonderful grandchildren: Isabella, Kyler, and Chase.  “Spending time with them is one of my greatest joys,” said Sheila, “and I love watching the grandchildren grow and thrive.”  At home, we have a Yorkie-Poo named Maya, who adds a lot of energy and fun to our household. She noted, “In addition to caring for my family, I enjoy hobbies such as spending time outdoors, cooking, and enjoying small outings together.”
