Initiated to coincide with the opening of the Weinberg Therapy Building in 1997, the Outpatient Therapy Service has caught the attention of physicians and patients throughout the region. A unique blend of aquatic and land-based therapies is provided under one roof. Compassionate care provided by professional staff with a physician’s referral for both adults and children.
A licensed Music Therapist, trained in music and the behavioral sciences, integrates music, personal human sensitivities, and elements of the physical environment to develop a healthy relationship with the client. Music Therapists assess emotional well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills through musical responses. They design music sessions for individuals and groups based on client need, including: learning through music, music improvisation, receptive music listening, music performance, music and imagery, song writing, and lyric discussion.
A licensed BCBA, along with licensed Behavioral Support Specialists (BSS), provides specialized interventions that assist individuals to increase adaptive behaviors to replace or modify challenging behaviors that prevent or interfere with the individuals’ inclusion in home and family life or community life. The team promotes consistent implementation of the Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and Crisis Intervention Plan (CIP) across environments and across people with regular contact with the individual, such as family, friends, neighbors and other providers.
Aquatic Therapy is a unique treatment allowing a wide range of exercise and other rehabilitative techniques. The water’s warmth, combined with the properties of buoyancy, resistance, and hydrostatic pressure, allows for reduced pain, less pressure on joints, strength training, and reduced swelling. The benefits of the water may help provide an accelerated recovery for several orthopedic and neurological conditions.
Occupational Therapy seeks to rehabilitate or develop an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living such as dressing, eating, bathing, and personal grooming. Licensed therapists also work on specific needs to help individuals return to their work and leisure activities.
Speech-Language Therapy helps with a variety of communication problems. Licensed and ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologists address challenges resulting from surgery, illness, injury, voice disorders, cognitive disability, speech-language delays/disorders, neurological disorders, swallowing difficulties, and other conditions can all be addressed.
